FAQ’s
What is Endeavor Foundation?
Endeavor Foundation is a community organization created by and for the people of Northwest Arkansas. Our funds are managed by a top-flight investment management firm, RogersCasey. We’re governed by a Board of Directors made up of Northwest Arkansas community leaders that are accountable to you. Since 1999, Endeavor Foundation has distributed more than $60 million in grants. Currently, we manage and take care of over 100 funds held by individuals, families, businesses and nonprofit agencies. We are entrusted with nearly $150 million in assets. Last year we distributed almost $4 million in grants.
Is a community foundation a new kind of charity?
No—but you might think so, because of growing popularity in recent years. In fact, the first community foundation was established in Cleveland in 1914. Endeavor Foundation (previously known as Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation) was established in 1999. Today we join a field of nearly 800 community foundations across the United States, with combined assets of approximately $45 billion.
Who sets up funds at Endeavor Foundation?
Most funds managed at Endeavor Foundation are set up by individuals. Some are wealthy, and others are just regular folks. What these people have in common is a desire to give back to the place they call home — whether it’s protecting the environment, honoring the memory of someone they loved, supporting local arts organizations, or funding any other charitable cause imaginable.
What is the difference between setting up a gift fund through my investment firm and establishing a fund at Endeavor Foundation?
Endeavor Foundation provides much more than the simple check-writing services of a gift fund at a brokerage house. One of the most significant advantages to you in setting up a fund with us is our commitment to the Endeavor family. We provide custom research on nonprofit organizations you’re interested in or on issues-of-interest. All you have to do is ask. We’ll also meet with you one-on-one to help you develop a strategic approach to grant-making. If you are interested in learning more about these personalized services, please let us know.
What is the difference between Endeavor Foundation and United Way?
While both Endeavor and United Way share a dedication to serving the people of Northwest Arkansas, we do so in different, and sometimes complementary, ways. One way to look at it is that United Way raises funds for current community needs. When you give to United Way, your involvement is over. Endeavor focuses both on current and future needs. With Endeavor, you can set up a fund where your involvement is ongoing because you advise where gifts from your fund go and what they support.
What are your fees?
It’s complicated. It depends on the kind of fund you establish. We suggest you give us a call so we can talk it over.
